The Secret To Making Money
The key to a successful business or to making moneyy online is finding something you are passionate about. Once you find that thing, stick to it and focus on that. I constantly see business owners and people online saying they have no time and no money. But then I see them spending hours on social media posting about something that hasn’t made them any money. Stop wasting time on that and focus on your passion. It took me 26 years to find my passion but after I read Gary Vaynerchuck’s newest book called, “Crushing It!”, it all made sense to me. I was trying to promote things through affiliate programs that I wasn’t passionate about, I was just in it for the money. When it comes to a long lasting business or personal brand it can’t be just about the money or it will turn into another job that you hate. Most people hate their jobs, so having a side hustle that you are passionate about will give you something to look forward to after your main job. I want to motivate you and encourage you to do more, but don’t quit your main job until your business replaces your salary and then some! For me my passion is marketing and specifically pay-per-click (PPC) or paid ads. I love my job, I may not love the commute or waking up early but I 100% love the work I do and I love seeing results because of my efforts. My goal is to eventually make YouTube videos to teach people how to run their own successful Google AdWords campaigns, but I’m in the beginning stages and I’m still writing the content and developing my website. I work full time and commute to the city Monday-Friday, but I’m going to find the time to accomplish my new found goal and provide value to people.
Make The Time To Build Your Brand
If you have a 9-5 job or a job that isn’t 7 days a week, you have plenty of time. If you have multiple jobs and still no time, make time. Are you sleeping for 8 hours a day? Are you spending your lunch break posting meme’s online? Use this time wisely to work on a business idea, not just a business that will make you “x” amount of dollars a year, but a business that you are passionate about. Besides sleeping what are you passionate about? Heck, if you are passionate about sleep, write blogs about your favorite pillow, blanket, or even the type of mattress you like. But writing about sleeping may not get you very far. If you’re passionate about the gym or food, try new restaurants or cooking at home and share with people how you do it. You can even make mini videos of you cooking; don’t even worry about editing the videos just yet, start producing content and then get fancy later on down the road. If the gym is your getaway, write about the workout gloves you wear, the weights you use or the workouts you do. Make mini personal training videos and share them on social media. The #fitfam is one of the strongest communities on Instagram, reach out and follow/like other fitness enthusiasts pictures. Follow some of your role models followers and reach out to them. You might even find yourself someone you can collaborate with on YouTube videos.
Monetize Your Passion The Right Way
Once you have a following or a website with some content join the Amazon affiliate program and monetize your platform, add links to the specific products you use at the gym. The same goes for cookware and sleeping products if that is what you are truly passionate about. These are just a few examples but you can write about whatever you truly enjoy to do and find products to promote. If you have a website and you’re in the service industry, such as a DJ or you own a car wash, get active on social media. There are many Facebook groups around these industries. You can even join general groups such as “mom and dad” groups. These groups usually have large followings and most of the users are active. I have sold countless items in these groups and most times parents are looking for recommendations for services. They may not need you now but they might take down your contact information and call you out of the blue one day or show up at your business. To entice people to do business with you give them a discount code, have them go to your car wash and say “Facebook” and give them a 10% discount. This isn’t a huge discount, but you might get a loyal customer and they may spread the word about your business to other people. Not to mention this will make you feel good to see that your effort on social media has paid off. Same goes if you are a DJ give people a 10% discount if they use the code “Facebook” or whatever you want it to be. If you work for yourself you will still make 90%. You may not see instant results, but don’t get discouraged. I’ve seen it multiple times in groups where a person will say that they are looking for a DJ for an event; this is the perfect time for you to leave a comment. Being consistent with this approach and check these groups occasionally; you don’t have to spend hours but dedicated about 10-30 minutes before you go to bed and see what/how you might be able to help someone.
Help Others As You Build Your Trust Online
Helping someone doesn’t just mean with your service, if someone is looking for a mechanic tell them about your family friend that has been working on your car(s) for the past 10 years. What goes around usually comes around, this person might also need your service one day and if you give advice chances are they will checkout your profile and see what you do (that’s what I do when someone comments on a post). Ten minutes out of your day is not a lot, so having “no time” is not an excuse, you need to sacrifice something for the bigger picture.
Build Your Network
If you are a business owner or if you are looking for a job, you need to network. You probably heard this before but “your network is your net worth”. If you own a business you need to build your brand and gain trust. You can do this by having a website, having social media pages, and having an online presence.
Let me explain, having a website is important for many reasons. For example having a website will make you look more legitimate and build trust and also it’s a good way to get someone to complete an action. If you are going to be active on social media and people are coming to your profile, you want people to have something to view and ultimately to buy from you.
Hacks To Grow Your Followers
To grow your following there are a few things you can do. On Facebook you can add people you have mutual friends with, but more importantly on Linkedin you can add people in your industry or a specific market. For example I built my Linkedin following to over 1200 connections, just by adding like-minded individuals. I am in the marketing industry so I targeted people who used keywords such as “marketing”, “seo”, “digital marketing” and “ppc” on their profile or job title and I would add them. I even added people that worked at specific places such as “Google” and “Vaynermedia” (Gary Vaynerchuck’s company).
Important Social Media Accounts & Platforms
If you take nothing else away from this I hope you at least try something different with your business online, even if it’s not what I suggested. Social media is huge and the online presence isn’t going away so it would be in your best interest to capitalize on this space. Below are a few first steps you should implement for your business, to get ahead of your competition or even just to expand your business.
As part of being active online you might receive negative comments. Don’t bash or be nasty to anyone that says something negative about your business. Remember to remain professional at all times. There might be someone else in that group following your post and they might reach out to you about your product or service. So always be nice, everyone isn’t going to be interested in your brand, but the law of large numbers will also help you find some winners.
